Regulations Pertaining to Mausoleum Crypts

“Hillside” Cortlandt Cemetery Association  

Effective March 1, 2018

Crypts accommodate a casket with external dimensions not exceeding 24 inches high, 30 inches wide and 87 inches long.

All bodies must be properly embalmed.  No outer container will be permitted, and a self-sealing casket must be used which has an air valve.

Crypts will be opened only by employees of the Cemetery.

The cost of the crypt space includes the inscription which will be limited to three lines: Top line – Surname; Middle line – Given name and initial; Bottom line – Year of birth and year of death.  All letters must be uniform.

Niche inscriptions will be charged at the prevailing rate.

Nothing shall be attached or pasted to the Mausoleum.

Garden Mausoleums #1 and #2

  • Plants and flowers will be permitted in an area designated by the Superintendent and restricted to one perennial per entombment. A small plaque in memory of the deceased may be placed next to the flowers.  Flower beds will be cleaned once a year.  Restricted items will be removed.
  • Artificial flowers, wreaths and designs and all other decorative or devotional objects are not allowed.
  • One wreath, made of natural material, will be allowed for Christmas, but cannot be larger than 1’ x 2’. It must be removed by February 1st
  • Flags will be permitted to be placed in the flower bed next to the small plaque.

Chapel Mausoleum

  • Family may enter the indoor Chapel Mausoleum with the key provided by the Cemetery, during the hours set by Cemetery.
  • Only artificial flowers and artificial wreaths at Christmas are permitted.
